Even though it was a sunny Sunday afternoon, there was something downright eerie about this place. I don't know if it was due to the stories I've heard about dead animals carcasses being buried there, that it was once a major dumping ground for toxic waste, or just that the entire site had the feel of an abandoned aquatic graveyard, but it was pretty damn spooky. And I can't wait to go back.....

Ghoul @ 924 Gilman - Berkeley, Ca. 1/08/11

Shooting Ghoul at Gilman was pretty much like shooting Gwar, only in a tiny club. I spent most of the set protecting my gear from stage divers, trying to dodge the fake blood, and getting my face planted into the stage. With that being said, I'm surprised I was able to pull off a handful of semi decent shots. Couldn't think of a better show to start the new year with.....

Lately I've been wanting to branch out a bit, and shoot something other than shows, bands, and weddings.  Although I still love and will most certainly continue to photograph all three, they are my photograpghy "Comfort Zone", and I think it's about time to feel a bit awkward and out of place with a camera again. I have also been feeling like I want a sense of danger when shooting, and standing in front of a barricade for the first three songs just ain't cutting it. I have a pretty good idea of what it is that I want to do, and figured I'd get the ball rolling in the right direction with an easy (and accessible) subject matter. These photos aren't spectacular, but this little shoot really put a lot of ideas into my head of how to take it all to the next level, and that's what I'm all about...
