As with 2010, I started off 2011 by photographing the Melvins at the Great American Music Hall, and once again it was nothing short of epic. I showed up about an hour before the doors even opened to make sure I would have a spot in front of the stage, and when the band walked out and tore into 'Charmicarmicat', I found myself right in front of Buzz. Unfortunately the lighting was pretty much non existent, and even with a prime lens and the ISO cranked up to 4k, I really didn't get anything spectacular. After 20 minutes or so of chimping and hoping that I was at least getting anything usable, I decided to put the camera away, grab a beer, and head up to the balcony to watch them absolutely destroy. It was without a doubt my favorite Melvins show, and although I am disappointed with these photos, I couldn't think of a better way to start this year of shows.
