Maybe it was because I didn't get to bed until almost 3am the night before, or that I wasn't really caffeinated enough when I finally got my press credentials and got inside the gate around 10:45am, but for some reason I was having a bit of a hard time figuring out this years Vans Warped Tour. Luckily Gallows hit the Hurley Stage, which was only a few yards from the entrance, at precisely 11am, and put on one of the most intense sets of punk rock that I have witnessed since the days of Mabuhay Gardens and the Rock On Broadway. I really can't say enough about how much I respect this band, their fuck all attitudes, and their music. And after vocalist Frank Carter called out all the shitty bands on this years tour, I pretty much became a fan of them for life.
After being energized by Gallows and figuring out the lay of the land, I spent the next 6 and half hours at either the Main Stage or the Old School Stage with Umlaut and The Hard Rock Chick, with a few scheduled stops at the Beer Garden. And although I was impressed with The Adolescents, The Dickies, Anti-Flag, Civet, Flipper, Shooter Jennings, Less Than Jake, Duane Peters Gunfight, and Black Tide, it was hard to not think about Gallows, and how they just fucking owned this day. More pictures and a proper review coming soon.
